Hello! My name is Alli Smith, and I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Southeastern WI.
Through my own mythical creatures and a meshing of assorted fragmented memories, symbols, text, and appropriated characters; I create artworks that are simultaneously comical and bleak. The whimsy in my work appears through my use of a vibrant color palette and lively, somewhat childlike mark making. The weight it carries is not always noticeable upon first glance because of these aesthetic choices. However, upon further reflection, one notices that these creatures converse in murky, abstracted spaces. They appear lost. Some crave vengeance. Others question their worth, and what it means to be accepted authentically in this world. My work serves as a vessel to funnily express feelings that are often complicated, contradictory, and blanketed in turmoil.
